“Streets for People” and “Anchor Institutions” Columns

While I sporadicly posted at this site when I lived and worked in Washington, D.C. and then again when I moved to Key West in 2015, I didn’t start writing the Friends of Car-Free Key West & Duval Street/Historic Downtown blog regularly until Covid hit in 2020 and this was the first story: Reimagining Key West – 10 Things We Should Strive For and 10 Ways To Get There, April 22, 2020, which you’ll find at the bottom of this page.

Some months later the editors of KONK Life asked if they could use our stories and we began crossposting there in January 2021under the “Streets for People” moniker. The name stuck for all the advocacy writing I’ve done since. All these stories can be found at KONK Life here or click on the individual story links below.

Stories have been cross posted at our Substack page since the summer of 2025 and on occasion in the Keys Citizen Saturday print and online edition since March 2026. “Anchor Institutions” are a new (July 2026) feature form about the people and places that hold Key West together.
